Frequently Asked Questions

Flooring costs vary by material: laminate ($5–7/sq ft installed), LVP ($6–9/sq ft installed), hardwood ($8–12/sq ft installed), and carpet ($4–8/sq ft installed). Labor is typically $1.50–$4 per sq ft depending on the material.

Luxury vinyl plank (LVP) and tile are the most durable options for high-traffic areas. LVP is waterproof, scratch-resistant, and costs less than hardwood. Engineered hardwood is more stable than solid hardwood in humid climates.

Plan for 10% waste for standard rectangular rooms. Use 15% for rooms with angles, closets, or complex layouts. Simple rooms with minimal cuts can use 5%. Always buy from the same lot.

Laminate and LVP (click-lock) are the easiest to DIY. Carpet and hardwood are more challenging and usually benefit from professional installation. DIY can save $1.50–$4 per sq ft in labor costs.
