Frequently Asked Questions

Divide your room's square footage by the area of one tile (in square feet). Add 10% for waste on straight layouts or 15% for diagonal or complex patterns. Our calculator does this automatically, including grout line spacing.

Grout quantity depends on tile size and grout line width. Smaller tiles and wider grout lines require more grout. As a rule of thumb, plan for about 25 lbs of grout per 100 sq ft of 12x12 tile with 1/8" grout lines.

Larger tiles (18x18 or 24x24) with minimal grout lines create fewer visual breaks, making rooms appear larger. Light colors also help. Plank tiles (6x24) can elongate a space when laid lengthwise.

Plan for 10% waste for standard straight-lay patterns. Use 15% for diagonal layouts, herringbone patterns, or rooms with many obstacles. Buy extra tiles from the same lot for future repairs.
