Frequently Asked Questions

A typical two-car driveway (12x20 ft) with 4 inches of gravel needs about 1 cubic yard (roughly 1.4 tons of crushed stone). Longer driveways require proportionally more. Use our calculator to get an exact estimate.

One ton of gravel covers about 80–100 sq ft at 2 inches deep, or 50–60 sq ft at 4 inches deep. Coverage varies by gravel type due to different densities.

Crushed stone (#57 or #411) is the most popular driveway gravel because it compacts well and provides good drainage. For the base layer, use #3 crushed stone, topped with a finer #57 stone.

For walkways and paths: 2–3 inches. For driveways: 4–6 inches (often in two layers). For drainage areas: 4–6 inches. For decorative landscaping: 2–3 inches.
